Starting Over

Hi, I’m Giulia, and I’ve moved countries more than once. Growing up as an expat can be exciting, but it also means getting used to starting over: new schools, new friendships, new routines, and sometimes a completely different way of seeing the world.

I started TCK Mindspace because I wanted a place to explore what that experience actually feels like. Not just the difficult parts of moving, but also the questions that come with growing up between cultures: What does home mean when you’ve had more than one? How does moving shape the way we see ourselves and other people? And what happens when the things that feel completely normal to us turn out to be cultural too?

Some posts here are personal, while others start with a book, a film, a podcast, a piece of research, or simply something I’ve noticed that made me curious. I’m interested in psychology, anthropology, culture and identity, and I’m still figuring out where all of those interests will take me.

If you’ve grown up moving too, I hope you find something here that feels familiar. And if you haven’t, I hope TCK Mindspace gives you a small window into what it can be like to grow up between places, languages and cultures.

Mostly, I hope it makes you curious about the people around you, and maybe a little more curious about yourself.
